Construction Update: May 2007
Madden Library—Steel Construction to Begin May 16th
On Thursday, May 10th, a 190-foot crane for the steel work at the Madden Library construction project arrived on campus.
The crane, which has a 100-ton capacity, arrived in three pieces. It will be assembled on site and the steel construction work will begin on Wednesday, May 16. The work will start on the east side of the new library basement and move from east to west.
The steel work for the four-story building is expected to be completed by mid-July.
The steel work will be in full swing by graduation time, and Swinerton Builders will have their workers on site five to six days a week. The noise and dangerous nature of this work will necessitate keeping the surrounding areas, including the Peace Garden, clear. In order to keep pedestrian traffic out of harm’s way, flagmen will be on site in the area where the crane is operating.
