Construction Update: September 2006
The demolition of the north wing of the Henry Madden Library continues. This is the beginning of a two year project to add to and renovate the library. A safety fence has been placed around the construction site, enclosing the east, west, and north sides of the library. A portion of the Peace Garden remains open. At times during the project, the construction fence line may deviate due to the type of work going on and equipment used.
The demolition began in early August. The tear down and clean up are going on simultaneously. The site should be mostly cleared by mid-September except for the portion of the North Wing above the current basement. This portion will be removed at a later date. A large percentage of the debris is being recycled, in keeping with the sustainable practices of the university.
Construction days are Monday through Friday and weekends as required from 7 am to 3:30 pm. In order to reduce congestion on campus, construction workers will park in Lot Y on the north side of Barstow. The Parking Office is gearing up to have their own shuttle service to move the construction workers using 10-12 person golf carts. The shuttles will run in shifts from 6:30 – 7:30 am and from 2-4 pm. The route will be along Barstow, Cedar, Shaw, and Barton Avenues.
